All season long, Waiakea senior Andi Igawa has been the best girls golfer in the Big Island Interscholastic Federation, winning every single time she’s teed up.

She capped her senior season with her first league title after two runner-up finishes, shooting a 16-over-par 88 in the third round of the BIIF championships on Thursday at Mauna Kea Resort.

Her three-round total of 252 was 12 strokes better than Kamehameha junior Shantel Antonio, who had a 90 for a 264 total. Hilo senior Amanda Loeffler placed third after she carded a 99 for a 278 total.

Igawa went 9 of 9 during the season, beating the field in the six regular season meets and the three rounds in the playoffs. She continued Waiakea’s tradition as the school’s 11th consecutive BIIF champion.

Waiakea sophomore Trevor Hirata entered the final round with a one-shot lead over Kamehameha freshman Kalai Pomroy.

Hirata shot an 8-over 80 under sunshine and strong winds for a 231 total, pulling away to finish nine shots ahead of Pomroy, who had an 88 for a 240 total.

Kamehameha sophomore Preston Ching was third with an 88 for a 245 total. Hilo senior Casey Nakatsu was fourth at 92—247; followed by Kamehameha senior Cody Pereira, 100—253; and Waiakea freshman Shon Katahira, 95—260.
